Strategic communication allows a business to convey a message internally and externally and to be receptive to outside feedback. In a cake bakery there are multiple channels for communicating. You need to be able to communicate with your production staff - your bakers - as well as the customers buying your cakes and the community at large. Effectively managing your strategic communications will allow you to convey the message you want to express, while receiving valuable feedback.
Internal Communication
A business needs to communicate internally with its managers, employees, executives and shareholders to make sure that everyone is on the same page with regards to the firm's strategy. In a cake business, you should make sure that your entire staff is up-to-date on your current plans for the business. For example, if you make the decision to focus on improving the quality of your cakes, you need to convey this message to everyone on the staff including your bakers, who need to improve the product quality; your managers, who need to ensure the quality levels are met; and your sales and marketing people, who need to convey the quality of your cakes,
External Communication
External communication takes place through multiple channels. You need to communicate strategically through these channels to convey your message to different audiences. For example, to communicate to the community at large you may issue press releases about local projects you are supporting, such as donating baked goods to a charity fundraiser. Inform your customers about specials you are offering, such as a cake of the week using social media.
